February at Arun Thai Cooking

Cultural exchange of Thai food in February month

Technique, Craft, Culture & Connections

February was a dynamic and inspiring month at Arun Thai Cooking. From technique-focused workshops in our DTV Thai Culinary Program to the launch of a brand-new Craft & Culture experience, the kitchen was filled with energy, curiosity, and meaningful cultural exchange.

This month truly highlighted what we love most about sharing Thai cuisine not just as food, but as culture.

DTV Thai Culinary Program – Stir-Fry Technique Workshop

In February, our DTV Thai Culinary Program focused on one of the most fundamental yet powerful Thai cooking techniques: high-heat stir-frying.

Students didn’t just follow recipes, they learned why technique matters. From understanding work temperature to sequencing ingredients correctly, the workshop emphasized confidence and control.

🍚 Khao Pad Boran  (Thai Stir-Fried Rice)

Preparation of Khao Pad Thai Stir-Fried rice with precision

Khao Pad may seem simple, but perfecting it requires precision. Students practiced balancing seasoning, controlling moisture in the rice, and achieving that signature light smoky aroma from the wok. We explored how different proteins and fresh herbs can transform this everyday Thai favorite into something truly special.

🥬 Pad Pak Boong Fai Daeng (Morning Glory Stir-Fry)

Preparation of Pad Pak Boong Fai Daeng with the correct technique applied

This vibrant vegetable dish taught students the importance of speed and timing. With garlic and chili hitting the hot wok first, followed quickly by fresh morning glory, students experienced firsthand how high heat locks in color, texture, and flavor.

The atmosphere in the DTV workshop was focused yet exciting — the sound of sizzling garlic, flames rising from the wok, and students encouraging each other as they gained confidence with each toss. By the end of the session, many were surprised at how much depth and complexity can come from simple ingredients when the technique is done correctly.

Thai Craft & Culture Workshop

February also marked the official launch of our new Craft & Culture Workshop, a program designed to combine Thai culinary skills with artistic presentation and cultural storytelling.

This class focuses on traditional appetizers that require patience, technique, and creativity.

🥢 Thai-Style Spring Rolls

Students learned proper wrapping techniques, balancing fillings, and achieving the perfect crisp texture. Beyond cooking, we discussed the role of spring rolls in Thai gatherings and celebrations.

💰 Golden Money Bags (Thung Thong)

A delicate and symbolic appetizer representing prosperity and good fortune. Students carefully shaped each “money bag,” learning both the technique and cultural meaning behind this elegant dish.

The Craft & Culture sessions brought a softer, more detailed energy into the kitchen. It was hands-on, creative, and filled with concentration and laughter as everyone admired their beautifully crafted appetizers.

Private Classes – Welcoming Students from the Netherlands

Throughout February, we also hosted several private classes, including a wonderful group of university students from the Netherlands who were exploring Thai culinary experiences during their time in Thailand.

It was inspiring to see their curiosity not only about flavors and ingredients, but also about Thai traditions, market life, and culinary history. Private classes always allow for deeper conversations, personalized guidance, and meaningful cultural exchange.

Hosted several private classes in February

From learning how Thai families prepare everyday dishes to understanding the balance of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors, the experience became more than just cooking, it became a cultural journey.

Watching the students connect through food, ask thoughtful questions, and proudly present their dishes at the end of class is always one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
